Sam Trust

Trust Music Management: Formed in 1971 to serve publishing needs of artist/writers such as the Everly Brothers, David Clayton Thomas of Blood Sweat and Tears, Tennessee Ernie Ford and others. Created publishing companies Rocksmith Music, ASCAP and Mandina Music, BMI.

ATV MUSIC CORP/NORTHERN SONGS — President and CEO (1973–1985)

Created one of the most successful publishing companies of the 1970’s and 80’s (ATV) that produced numerous hits and achieved many awards, along with exploiting existing catalogs of LENNON and McCartney. While at ATV, developed BRUTON PRODUCTION MUSIC LIBRARY that later became APM (Association Production Music) via a joint agreement with EMI’s KEITH PROWSE PRODUCTION MUSIC LIBRARY. Acquired many publishing companies for ATV, and participated in the eventual sale of ATV/NORTHERN SONGS.

Key witness on behalf of John Lennon, at his request, during his green card immigration trial.

LORIMAR MUSIC — President (1986–1989)

Supervised the music and exploitation from Lorimar television and films as well as creating an independent pop music publishing arm which achieved three #1 awards in Jazz, Country, and R&B. Acquired SILVERLINE/GOLDLINE publishing companies.

KILLER TRACKS (1989–1997)

Created this company in 1989 which eventually became one of the top production music suppliers in the world. Sold Killer Tracks to BMG MUSIC PUBLISHING in 1996 which became their flagship company in production music. Continued as CEO until June 30, 1997.

Semi-retired to Carmel, CA. and returned to Trust Music Management, Inc. Supervised and helped increase earnings of the copyrights of the estate of film songwriter legend Harry Warren. Administered several music publishing entities including music of Academy Award nominee, Jorge Calandrelli. Administered and exploited Mandina and Rocksmith Music companies co-owned with partner. (sold in 2001)

Consultant for Sony/ATV MUSIC 1998–2000 and Killer Tracks 1997–1999. Serves as witness in music business litigation. Administrator for Doris Day music, recording, film and television entities and now her estate.

Extensive experience in evaluating music publishing companies which are candidates for acquisition, as well as valuing estates thereof.

PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS

  • NATIONAL MUSIC PUBLISHERS ASSOCIATION: Served as board member for 14 years.
  • Member of board of directors of the BMI FOUNDATION.
  • Former member of National Association of Recording Arts and Sciences.
  • Former member of CARMEL MUSIC SOCIETY serving as Booking Chair for Artists, and past board member of the Monterey Symphony Orchestra.

BEECHWOOD MUSIC CORP (Division of CAPITOL-EMI): President 1969-71
Responsible for attaining BMI’s “Most Performed Song of the Year” for 1970 –“SNOWBIRD,” followed by “Put Your Hand In The Hand,” and Michael Jackson’s first single, “Got To Be There,” expanded catalog into TV and feature film usage, and acquired dominant country music publisher CENTRAL SONGS.
